pattern update for the Cosmo Bag

A few of my sewing friends have requested more details for some of the steps in the Cosmo Bag from my "Style Stitches" book. This is such a great bag I want to make sure everyone can make it easily. The updated instructions are shown below in red along with a revised Figure 1. These changes will be reflected in all future printings from May 1, 2011 forward.

- In Step 5 on page 25, I've added a note describing how the pieces will look when you sew them together.

NOTE: The bottom edge of the band and the top of the main panel curve in opposite directions. Once the panels are sewn, clipped and pressed, they will lay nice and flat.

a. Place the first band and main panel Right sides together, matching the curved bottom edge of the band with the curved top edge of the main panel. Pin the panels in place easing the band around the curve on the main panel. Stitch a 1/2" (1.3 cm) seam along the pinned edges. Backstitch at each end.

b. Clip a small V-shape in the seam allowance* every 1/2" (1.3 cm) around the curved edges of the band to allow it to lay flat. Be careful not to clip your stitching.

- In Step 6, I added more detail to Figure 1 to show you where to sew the stay stitching line made in Step 6h and the clips made in Step 6i. See Figure 1 below.

- I have also reworded Steps 6h and 6i on page 26 to make it more clear.

h. Stay stitch* 3/8" (1 cm) from the inside edge of the band and both handles on both main panels.

i. Clip* into the seam allowance every 1/2" to 3/4" (1.3 cm to 1.9 cm) around the curved edges of the handles and bands on both main panels. Be careful not to clip the stitching.
